Northshore murder prompts school lockdown

A woman is dead after a shooting near Ponchatoula High School.

"TPSO responded to a report of gunshots at 39322 Brookfield Drive Ponchatoula," Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Chief Dennis Pevey said in a news release.  "Upon arrival a w/f April Vanderlinden 39years old  was located and was in need of medical attention because of gunshots she had received."

He says the victim did not survive after arriving at the hospital.

"She was pronounced deceased," Pevey said.

The chief says they are looking for a man.

"A Ryan Pourciau (above) w/m 12/15/1994 is a person of interest... and TPSO holds an active warrant for violate protective orders on him."

Because the shooting happened close to Ponchatoula High, and because authorities say the person of interest has links to the school, officials took some protective measures.

"Since Pourciau had connections to PHS and because of the close proximity school officials placed school on lockdown," Pevey explained.

The investigation continues.
