Slidell PD: X-Factor contestant stole car to get home after audition

Northshore police say a man who came to New Orleans to try out for "The X Factor" television show will get to spend a bit more time in Louisiana after being arrested on a variety of charges.

Slidell Police Spokesman Detective Daniel Seuzeneau says Orrion Wilson flew to New Orleans from Florida to participate in the "The X Factor" auditions, but did not have enough money for the return flight.  Last night just after 8:00 p.m., police say a desperate Wilson jumped into a Pontiac Grand Prix at a gas station on Voters Road, threw his suitcase in the back seat, and sped off in the general direction of Florida.  Det. Seuzeneau says the vehicle's owner immediately called 911 and police swarmed the area, with one of the officers soon spotting Wilson.

Listen to Det. Daniel Suzeneau:

According to Seuzeneau, the "X-Factor" hopeful led cops on a high-speed chase through Slidell down Fremaux Avenue, Front Street, Gause Boulevard, and eventually to I-10.  In the process, officials say he rammed a police car before being stopped by a "pit maneuver" by one of the following officers.  Seuzeneau says the chase ended very near where it began, in a grassy area on Interstate 10 near Fremaux Avenue.  Wilson attempted to flee from the vehicle after the crash, but was quickly apprehended by officers, according to investigators.

A news release says the suspect "told police that he was anxious to get home because he performed well at “The X Factor” auditions in New Orleans, and was asked to return next week in New York."

Wilson booked on charges of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Theft Over $500, Criminal Damage, Resisting an Officer, and Aggravated Flight from an Officer.

Wilson is currently at the Slidell City Jail and is awaiting transfer to the St. Tammany Parish Jail where a bond will be set.

Seuzeneau says it is unknown if Wilson will be out of jail in time to attend next week’s auditions of "The X Factor."
