Heavy rain and strong winds hit both sides of the lake earlier, spawning a couple of t ornado warnings and flood advisoriesall of which expired by late morning.
A Flood Advisory was issued for Orleans, Jefferson, St Bernard and Plaquemines parishes until 10:15am for possible floodin g in low-lying areas. There were reports of some street flooding in Uptown New Orleans, Metairie, Marrero, River Ridge and parts of Mandeville.
Marrero, Uptown New Orleans and the French Quarter all received more than 4 inches of rain this morning. At last reports, Audubon Park was just .01" away from a record rainfall for the day, set in 1964.
There were also some widely scattered power outages in the New Orleans area...in parts of Westwego, Bywater, Algiers, Bucktown and Metairie.
The French Quarter Festival opened as scheduled at 11am, though there were some delays as crews dried and secured equipment.
The Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival opened its gates and booths at noon.
