The St. Bernard Sheriff's Department today announced about 40 suspected dealers of heroin, crack, marijuana and assorted pills were arrested in the second phase of an investigation they dubbed "Operation Summer Heat."
Undercover deputies posed as drug buyers, leading detectives to numerous suspected dealers.
"We were angered by the number of people we were able to purchase heroin from," said Sheriff James Pohlmann in a news release.
Despite the seasonal name for the operation, sheriff's officials vowed the undercover buys will continue year-round.
"If you deal drugs in St. Bernard Parish you will be arrested," according to Major Chad Clark, the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office commander of Special Investigations. "All drug buys by the Sheriff's Office are video-taped and there is no question you will be convicted when you ar on tape."
