"We're not talking about record lows, but it is definitely cold outside," said Channel 4 meteorologist Laura Buchtel. "It's just one of these late season cold fronts that come through."
While it will warm up to the upper 50s and low 60s this afternoon, overnight temperatures will dip into the low 40s south of the lake and right around freezing on the Northshore.
A few morning commuters were caught off guard by the frigid conditions.
"Oh yeah, big surprise, man, I wasn't expecting it to be this cold," one man told WWL First News.
"No, man, Hell no,: another said.
"On the other hand, compared to what you hear on the news, as far as elsewhere with...winds and snow, it's like, okay, what have you got really to complain about?" another commuter pointed out.
"It will be a hundred degrees before you know it," another said. "Might as well enjoy while we have the chance."
