NOPD seeks man in murder of child at birthday party

The New Orleans Police Department has identified a “person of interest” in last year’s fatal shooting at a 10-year-old’s birthday party.
The May 29 shooting at a home on Simon Bolivar shook up a city that has become jaded to daily reports of violent crime. Two people, including a 5-year-old child, were killed in the shooting. A woman was killed by a stray bullet a few blocks away from the shooting, and the 10-year-old birthday boy was also shot. In all, five people were shot.
Investigators say 22-year-old Gary Magee (above) is now being sought in relation to the shooting. Police are describing him as a “person of interest,” and not a suspect at this time.
A news release from the NOPD says Magee is also wanted on several weapons and narcotics charges.
Anyone with information about Magee’s whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
The NOPD made one arrest of an 18-year-old in the case last year. Police say two men at the party, who were shot but survived, were the intended targets of the shooting.
