Another Gusman official admits corruption

Yet another high-ranking official in the office of Orleans Criminal Sheriff Marlin Gusman has entered a guilty plea, admitting today to a federal judge that he took part in rigging bids and accepting kickbacks.

John Sens, the former purchasing director for Gusman, is also said to be fully cooperating with federal authorities in the continuing investigation into alleged corruption at the Parish Prison.

WWL legal analyst Donald Chick Foret talked about the development.

"I have every reason to believe that John Sens will work with the agents and the U.S. Attorneys’ office and give to the government any and all information he has involving criminal activity,'' said Foret.

So, could the feds be setting their sights higher?  Foret said it would be unfair to speculate right now if this case could eventually impact Sheriff Gusman.

"Sheriff Gusman has publicly stated that he's not concerned about the investigation because there are no facts that he needs to be concerned about," Foret

Sens' guilty plea is the first one to come in what looks like an ever widening investigation that could lead to more charges against both deputies and contractors dealing with Gusman's jail operation.
