Slidell Police say Jamii F. Pizzitolo was struck at the intersection of Front Street and Pennsylvania Avenue around 11:30 p.m.
According to police, witnesses say that Pizzitolo, for unknown reasons, made a left turn onto the railroad tracks. A southbound train struck her northbound 2004 gold Oldsmobile Alero, causing the fatal head-on collision.
Pizzitolo had to be extricated from the vehicle, and was air lifted to University Hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Earlier in the night, Slidell Police received a 911 call about a possible drunk driver who was driving a gold Oldsmobile Alero. They searched for the vehicle, but were unable to locate it.
The fatal crash occurred about an hour later.
Impairment is suspected to be a contributing factor in the crash, and toxicology tests are pending.
