A press release from the NOPD says the two officers face charges in separate incidents of alleged brutality.
The following is the full press release from the NOPD:
Lieutenant Mike Field and Officer Jamal Kendrick will be placed on emergency suspension tomorrow without pay after both were charged today with Battery and Malfeasance in Office in two separate incidents last year.
On February 19th, 2012, Field allegedly repeatedly struck a man who was handcuffed and seated in the Eighth District Police Station on Royal Street. More than one New Orleans Police officer reported the incident to the department’s Public Integrity Bureau (PIB). An investigation was conducted and its findings turned over to the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office. Subsequently, today, the DA filed the charges against Field. Field is a 28 year veteran of the department.
On October 13, 2012, Jamal Kendrick tried to pull a driver over, but the driver refused and instead gave chase. When Kendrick was able to stop the vehicle, he was videotaped by the recorder in his police car as he handcuffed the driver and then struck him. PIB investigated the incident and provided the facts to the DA’s Office, which in turn charged Kendrick today with Battery and Malfeasance in Office. Kendrick joined the NOPD in September of 2009.
