Republican Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne has said he's "pondering" a run against three-term Democratic Senator Mary Landrieu. Several republican congressmen are also considering a campaign against Landrieu next year. John Maginnis, publisher of lapolitics.com, said a recent survey shows Dardenne might have the best chance.
''Dardenne ran best in a poll against Mary Landrieu that was done last month because he is better known than any of these congressmen.''
Dardenne has been considering a run for Governor but that election is a ways off and if he continues to poll well, Republican powers may put pressure on him to challenge Landrieu and make an announcement before the end of the year.
''Big donors would like to settle in on one candidate,'' said Maginnis.
Among other possible GOP challengers, Congressmen Charles Boustany, Bill Cassidy and John Fleming. No matter who ends up against Mary Landrieu it will be a tough challenge as Maginnis said she is maintaining solid approval ratings.
