Louisiana victims of con artists get their money back

Louisiana victims of con men, running a driveway resurfacing scam, will get their lost money back.

Attorney General Buddy Caldwell says the two Texas men, Billy Densmore and Derrick Johnson, cheated numerous people in Livingston, Ascension, St. John and other parishes.

Caldwell says the two men conned folks into paying huge sums for a new driveway and only got a few hundred bucks worth of shoddy work with poor materials.

"They come in and say they're going to asphalt. They charge them 20- to 30-thousand dollars to fix the driveway and do 400 dollars worth of work and put substandard things down," says Caldwell.

He says the men were in possession of a large amount of cash when they were arrested.

"The Attorney General's Office from Texas helped make it possible for us to seize the money with our Fugitive Apprehension Unit. That's how we got the 400,000 dollars off of the guy."

Caldwell says his office is hand delivering checks totaling $184,000 to 18 victims of the scam.

He says Densmore and Johnson mostly preyed on the elderly and vulnerable, and he's pleased to help the victims recover their losses.

"They're getting every dime back...every 100 percent of their money, they have gotten back and we're really happy we can do it."
