School on lockdown in Livingston Parish

Livingston Parish authorities have locked down the campus of Springfield Elementary School.

Sheriff Jason Ard says they are looking for a man wanted for several crimes who was seen in the area.

"This morning he was spotted close to the school campus, not on the school campus," he explained. "He fled into the woods."

The sheriff says they have surrounded the area where they think the suspect is hiding.

"We believe we have him boxed in," Ard told WWL First News. "We just wanted to make sure there was no way he could get in the school."
The sheriff says they also have cops at the school as a precaution.

"We have a couple of deputies on the school campus."

He says the man is "a suspect in a robbery... and a car jacking as well."

Deputies on foot, in vehicles and in a helicopter are assisting in the search.
