Lawsuits against Carnival are very likely

As the last buses filled with cruise ship passengers pulled out of New Orleans today heading for Texas, there is already talk about lawsuits.

The ordeal at sea could end up being very expensive for Carnival Cruise lines according to legal analyst Donald Chick Foret who suspects the offer of  $500 dollars and a free cruise is just the beginning.

Foret said unless Carnival can get individual passengers to accept more money and sign away their legal rights to sue, it looks like a major class action suit will be coming.

''Maintenance records are going to be subpoenaed, you're going to look at whether the operator was negligent and that may not be hard to prove,'' said Foret.

Listen to legal analyst Chick Foret:

Foret said proving injuries to passengers shouldn't be hard to prove either.

''I think there are many folks who were physically injured in the ordeal.''

He adds that Carnival may try to cut some deals with individual passengers, if they sign away their rights to sue.  How much money would be offered is very hard to say at this stage.
