"As the investigation into the death of three year-old Desmond Brown continued, our Homicide Detectives focused their attention on a possible suspect identified as Timothy 'Timmie' Reed, B/M, 34, of 2061 Rue Racine in Marrero," Colonel John Fortunato said in a news release. "Reed is the boyfriend of Lakeshia Brown, the mother of Desmond Brown."
He says they suspected the boyfriend all along.
"From the onset of this investigation, Homicide Detective Matt Vasquez focused his attention on Reed after his interviewing Lakeshia Brown. Ms. Brown told Detective Vasquez she last saw her son alive when Reed had taken him to the parades on Mardi-Gras day. Efforts began following Desmond Brown's murder to locate Timothy Reed for questioning," Fortunato said.
He says they tracked him down in New Orleans.
"Homicide Detectives, members of the CIC along with the assistance of the US Marshall's Gulf Coast Regional Task Force located Reed hiding in a bathroom in a motel room on I-10 Service Road in New Orleans East," Fortunato explained. "Reed was taken into custody, booked as a fugitive from Jefferson Parish on two attachments, and in turn transferred to Jefferson Parish."
The colonel says Reed shared some, but not all of the information about what happened.
"Upon being questioned relative to the death of Desmond Brown, Reed admitted taking Desmond with him on Mardi-Gras day as well as being with him at the time of his death. Reed made inculpatory statements regarding Desmond Brown's death, however, investigators don't believe Reed's confessions were completely truthful."
Reed has been in trouble with the law before.
"Timothy Reed has a prior criminal history with arrests for: First Degree Murder, Aggravated Rape of two Juveniles, Domestic Violence and Child Abuse," Fortunato said. "Reed was booked into the JPCC on one count each of First Degree Murder, Attempt First Degree Murder, Attempt Aggravated Arson along with attachments for Domestic Battery and non-payment of Child Support."
