Louisiana reaction to State of the Union

The ideas President Barack Obama gave in his State of the Union speech last night aren't an easy sell with much of the Louisiana delegation.

Congressman Steve Scalise says the speech showed the president is "out of touch" with Washington spending.

"We've exceed the $16.4 trillion debt ceiling, and we keep hitting it time and time again," Scalise said.

In his speech, the president talked about how COngress and the WHite house worked to reduce the deficit, and pushed for new initiatives to improve pre-school programs, boost manufacturing and research, and lower energy use.  Scalise said that can't be done without more spending: "He continues to want to lay out more program to spend money

In a written statement, Louisiana's only statewide-elected Democrat, Mary Landrieu, said "I think the President's focus on jobs and the economy is exactly where we need to be. While this recession is in our rearview mirror, we still need to do a lot of work to fully put it behind us."
