Police in cars, on foot and on horseback cleared the huge crowds on Bourbon Street.
Many people cheered for the cops who have been putting in extra long shifts to keep the celebration safe through three weeks of Mardi Gras and Super Bowl festivities.

Louisiana State Police Commander Mike Edmunson reacted, "Where else on Earth can you have this type of environment, this type of party, and not have total chaos?"
He said he was proud of the partnership of public safety for make the three weeks of celebrating safe.

New Orleans Police Chief Ronal Serpas also praised the men and women in uniform.
"It has been an amazing three weeks, we have delivered one home run after another," he noted. "I couldn't be any more proud to be the leader and member of the New Orleans Police Department."

New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu was very proud of the way everyone pulled together to make the Mardi Gras and Super Bowl celebrations successful.
"You don't quit until it's over, and tonight it's over," he said.
