No sooner did the rain clear Thursday morning than some folks began showing up on Orleans Avenue, where Endymion rolls Saturday evening.
Some of the setup is already being positioned for the Samedi Gras festival that happens on Orleans Avenue during the day, before parade time. And some of the parade's biggest fans are also pre-positioning themselves for Saturday's event.
"Probably 200, 250 people" will join David Moran, who sat through the rain this morning to gt the spot he wanted on the neutral ground. "And I'll be here through the duration, 'til Saturday."
About a block away, Joe Dubreuil and some of his friends staked out their plot. For now, it's just a few folding chairs, but by Saturday, it will be substantially more.
"Ladders, there'll be benches out front, barbecue pits, everything," he said.
People like Moran and Dubreuil have been coming to the same spot for Endymion for years, in some cases, decades. As their friends and families grow, so does the crowd of people with them waiting for the arrival of Endymion.
