Carnival not too crowded to accommodate late comers
The local hospitality industry wants to dispel the myth that hotel rooms are impossible to get in New Orleans for Mardi Gras.
Hotels in the area still have accommodations for Fat Tuesday folks.
That's not to say they'll have their pick of prime spots. Occupancy rates are expected to be quite high.
"For Mardi Gras, we're about as we usually are. We'll be in the 90s," says Mavis Early, Executive Director of the Greater New Orleans Hotel and Lodging Association.
Things will get a bit tighter in the next couple of days, though.
"For Friday, we'll be a little over 90 percent. It'll get a little higher than that for Saturday and then stay at that through Monday night," says Early.
She says it's not like the 99-and-a-half percent rate for the Super Bowl, but..."Still, not a bad number!"
So, for those looking for lodging, "I don't think it'll be a problem. There are still rooms available for Mardi Gras."
"Come on down!" says Early. "You'll find accommodations."
Just don't expect to book a balcony on Bourbon Street.
