Super Bowl Game Day Traffic Restrictions

Today, the City of New Orleans has issued additional traffic restrictions for the Super Bowl game.

On game day, the area immediately surrounding the Mercedes-Benz Superdome will be closed to all vehicular traffic and all non-ticketed pedestrian traffic. Citizens without tickets to the game will not be permitted into the closed-off permiter of the dome.

Because of the numerous street closures and limited parking, the best option for fans headed to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome is to take public transportation or walk to the dome.

People who need to drive will be able to take the Loyola exit from the Pontchartrain Expressway or the Vieux Carre or Esplanade exits from I-10 East. All lanes of Poydras Street will be closed from St. Charles Avenue to S. Galvez Street and portions of Loyola Avenue, Lasalle Street,  Girod Street, Freret Street, South Robertson Street, Magnolia Street and Clara Street near the dome and arena will be closed.

Streets on the downtown side of Tulane Avenue and the river side of Rampart Street will be the best option for game day drivers. In addition, the following streets will have restricted access from Sunday, February 3, 2013 at 7am until Monday, Februrary 4, 2013:

 · Gravier St. between S. Claiborne and S. Galvez
 · Simon Bolivar Ave. between Gravier and Poydras

The City of New Orleans has also issued an advisory on changes to Regional Transit Authority (RTA) service on Canal Street due to heavy vehicular and pedestrian traffic associated with Super Bowl XLVII activities.

Beginning at 10 am on Sunday, RTA bus service will be stopped between the foot of Canal Street and Liberty Street in both directions. The Canal streetcar will run from the foot of Canal to Loyola Avenue to the Union Passenger Terminal and back. An increased number of streetcars will run between the Union Passenger Terminal and the river, and bus service will augment the Canal streetcar line between Liberty Street and the Cemeteries.

The changes are for Sunday only. Detailed traffic maps for the areas around the Superdome, French Quarter and Ernest N. Morial Convention Center are available online at www.nola.gov/superbowl. The maps are updated as necessary.
