Super Bowl XLVII to benefit New Orleans for years to come

Come Monday, Super Bowl XLVII will be in the record books, all the hype and hullabaloo a thing of the past.

But, New Orleans will continue to reap the benefits of the big game for years to come.

The projects completed in preparation for the event add up to over a billion dollars in lasting improvements.

"The airport renovations, the renovation at the Convention Center, the addition of the Great Hall, the street work, the sidewalk work...those projects, along with the additional streetcar line along Loyola Avenue...those are done with the thought that these are for the citizens of the region and the City of New Orleans," says Mark Romig, with the Super Bowl Host Committee.

"All those projects, which added up to over a billion dollars in infrastructure improvements, really have a lasting benefit to all the communities," says Romig.

But, he says those benefits must be protected and cared for.

"We need to make sure that we have a program, going forward, where we can maintain what we have restored and renovated. So, I think that's going to be our next project...to make sure that we maintain what we have."

Besides the visible, concrete benefits the city will enjoy "is the lasting benefit for us, from the standpoint of building the great impressions about our city, region and state as a great place to live, a great place to work and, certainly a great place to visit,"  Romig says.

"It doesn't escape anybody who is visiting our great city that New Orleans knows how to handle these special events very well," he says.

"That message is being heard loud and clear, and I believe that will be the message that is carried out from this city around the world."
