New Orleans Police are investigating the shooting of an officer that occurred shortly before 2 a.m. in a parking lot in the 7000 block of Bullard Avenue.
Officers were responding to a call of a man causing a disturbance inside the Brother's Food Mart.
Upon arrival, officers observed a man walking from the store who fit the description of the subject said to be causing the disturbance.
Police say the man then began walking towards them in a "non-compliant, combative manner." Officers say the man became more agitated as they tried to interview him, and was placed in handcuffs for the officers' safety.
As the officers were putting the suspect in their patrol car, he continued resisting and at some point reached over and grabbed the officer's firearm from his holster pulling the trigger in the process.
The officer suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to the hospital, listed in good condition.
Police say the suspect was the same person causing the disturbance inside the store, but they were having trouble determining his identity as he remained uncooperative.
