A U.S. Secret Service dog fell to its death while working to protect Vice President Joe Biden during a visit to New Orleans Saturday night.

New Orleans Police say the dog was working in the Premier Parking garage in the 900 block of Iberville Street near the Ritz-Carlton Hotel at 6 p.m. when it fell off the roof.

Federal Agents and Police rushed the Belgian shepherd to a Metairie Veterinary hospital by motorcade, but veterinarians were unable to revive the dog.

The Secret Service dog and its handler were working security for the Vice President's visit at a fundraiser for the re-election campaign for U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, D-La.
