There's no way to really separate Mardi Gras from Super Bowl this year, with the game right in the middle of the parade schedule, but the economic impact is sure to be huge. Typically carnival produces about $144 million dollars in economic impact. New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau's Vice President of Communications and Public Relations Kelly Schulz says Super Bowl 47 is projected to bring in $432 million.
Schultz says all the hotels are virtually booked now through Mardi Gras. "One of the things that is just fundamental to the success of Mardi Gras is the New Orleans Police Department. They do an extraordinary job, she says. "If you think of about just the logistics involved in organizing a Mardi Gras. No city I think would be able to pull off something like that."
Although there will no parades in the city over Super Bowl weekend, Mandeville, Covington, Metairie, Slidell, St. Bernard and the Westbank will still have parades on Friday and Saturday. No parades in the entire metro area for Super Bowl Sunday.
