Survey: More college students looking for ''sugar daddies ''

The annual list of the "Top 20 Fastest Growing Sugar Baby Colleges" includes one local university.

Some members of the lost generation choose to work double shifts while attending school full time, and others find sugar daddies to help them find their way says Public Relations Manager Leroy Velasquez with SeekingArrangement.com, which put out it's second annual list recently.

"A sugar daddy is very often a busy man who leads a very active business life.  So he can't engage in the traditional boyfriend-girlfriend (relationship), he has to see her only maybe once or twice a month," says Valasquez.  But women are also looking to be sugar mamas he says, and the lesbian gay community is also involved.

Tulane University ranks #15 in the nation for sugar babies looking for someone to pay their tuition in exchange for what Seeking Arrangement says is companionship.

The website describes those seeking out a sugar daddy as "Attractive, intelligent, ambitious and goal oriented. Sugar Babies are students, actresses, models or girls and guys next door."  Velasquez says the economy is partly to blame for the huge increase in coeds looking for a sugar daddy, "Obviously we live in a recessive economy.  And on top of that tuition costs are rising at a steady rate."

Velasquez says a common misconception is that the benefactor is a wealthy older man.  "For example we have sugar mommies who take care of men, and we also have the LBGT community catered to."

Another local university, Loyola ranks number 70.
The website doesn't track numbers on how many of those seeking are successful Velasquez says.
