Big screen TV deals in time for Super Bowl

It could be the best time of the year to buy a new TV says Consumer Reports.

We got some of the recommendations of what to look for in this crop of TVs from Consumer Reports Senior Editor and TV expert Jim Willcox. He says this is the best time to shop TV deals with the holidays over, the model year ending and right before the Super Bowl and they still feature a lot of consumers new 'must-haves,' like internet connectivity, full HD resolution, and smart remotes.

"Probably the most popular feature we're seeing is internet connectivity," says Willcox. "There are a lot of models now that can access online content directly from TV, they have built in wifi so it's easy to connect to your network." Folks use that for YouTube and Netflix and to update Facebook or Twitter, plus they're also shopping on the internet right on their TV.

"With the ability to get all this extra online content, companies are starting to spend a lot of time trying to figure out ways to manage that content and make it accessible to viewers," says Willcox.

One of the new trends Willcox says is that remote controls are going really high tech, some even offering keyboards now, as companies try to help people manage all this new content right on their TV screen.

Even though 3D sets aren't in big demand from consumers he says, "A lot of the 3D TVs are among the best TVs that we review so even when you're watching standard HD programming these are good TVs. And again, the great deal is that a lot of the prices have come down significantly for 3D."
