"He's one of the reasons why the Saints have been able to stay in the city," Landrieu said of Goodell's advocacy for the city after Hurricane Katrina. "He's certainly one of the reasons why we have this Super Bowl and would get more."
Landrieu says don't heckle him.
"I know a lot of people have hot feelings about him, but I can tell you he's always been a friend to the city."
The mayor also want Saints fans to be friendly to Atlanta Falcon fans and the team if they advance to the Super Bowl and come to New Orleans.
"I'm gonna struggle with the Falcon part, but I'm going to do it!" Landrieu insisted. "Hospitality has to be our calling card."
We find out this weekend who will play in the Super Bowl in New Orleans in barely two weeks.
"We gotta roll the red carpet out," the mayor said, and he stressed that includes for Falcons fans and Goodell. "We certainly want to be good hosts and want more Super Bowls to come."
