Committee to look at Louisiana school safety

A day after President Obama recommended new gun control laws and signed executive orders that include things like ways to make it easier to put cops in schools, a committee of Louisiana lawmakers meets to discuss ideas.

The Louisiana House Homeland Security committee meets, and chairman John Schroder says legislators want to make sure schools around the state are safe for Louisiana students.

"That has to be number on our list, is making sure that the kids can go to school in a safe environment," Schroder said.

Schroder says even with the president's executive order, funding for enough campus cops could be difficult.

"There's something like 1,700 campuses across Louisiana, so that's a lot of policemen," he said.
