More than 3,000 scientists will be attending the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) Annual Meeting,
January 17-19, 2013 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
Dr. Sarah Hill is presenting new research demonstrating that the psychological effects of mating-motives are pervasive and reach far beyond preferences for romantic partners. "So when you're thinking of attracting a romantic partner, or feeling titillated for lack of a better word, that can have a lot of widespread consequences that go beyond just the bedroom."
Depending where a woman is in her cycle can determine which products she buys, nail color or the clothes she chooses to wear or which advertising she responds to Dr. Hill says , "Like how women evaluate the desirability of products based on the sexiness of the model who is presenting them."
The research seems to show we are making choices based on our hormones much more than we're aware of.
Men make financial decisions based on the probability that it will lead to them having sex she says the research found, leading to more risky financial decisions. Those decisions could involve a job choice, making bets or other decisions involving money.
Researchers from New Orleans-area universities will be presenting new research at this annual meeting as well.
