LSU loses in overtime to South Carolina

How it happened: LSU had a four-point lead with just over two minutes to go, but the Tigers scored just four more points for the rest of the game, including overtime and lost to South Carolina 82-73. Gamecocks forward Michael Carrera had 23 points and ten rebounds. All but two of those points were after halftime. Carrera was also 7-of-10 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line.

What it means: LSU had a golden opportunity to win its first game in the SEC, but the Tigers failed to make shots and they didn't defend well down the stretch and into overtime.

The Tigers did a lot of things well. They hit eight 3-pointers, shot 81-percent from the free throw line and rallied back from a 12-point deficit in the 1st half to eventually take the lead in the 2nd half.

Most Valuable Tiger: Anthony Hickey helped LSU take the lead in the 2nd half as he got hot from three-point land. He hit four 3-pointers on the night and finished with 18 points and also collected seven rebounds. But he sat for a long period in the 2nd half, with four fouls.

Stats of the game: South Carolina's bench outscored LSU's 53-17. The Gamecocks shot 37 free throws compared to LSU's 16. The Tigers had 21 turnovers.

Up next: LSU has another opportunity to get that first SEC win, but they'll have to do it on the road as they'll visit Georgia on Saturday night. The Bulldogs are also 0-and-3 in the league after losing to 17th ranked Missouri 79-62 on Wednesday night. Georgia is 6-and-10 overall.
