LSU hoops seeks first SEC win vs. South Carolina

The first week of SEC play didn't go well for the Fighting Tigers, losing to Auburn and 10th ranked Florida. But Coach Johnny Jones' team has a chance to pick up a couple of victories this week.

Tonight, the Tigers host South Carolina. The Gamecocks are also 0-and-2 in league play, but they are five points away from being 2-and-0. They lost by two to Mississippi State in the SEC opener and lost by three to Auburn last Saturday.

South Carolina is led by the fiery Frank Martin, who made a once dormant Kansas State program relevant in the Big 12. Martin's teams are known for their tenacious defense, but this Gamecocks team is last in scoring defense, allowing 68.5 points a game.

LSU has struggled to score in its first two SEC games of the year, averaging 57.5 points a game. Power forward Johnny O' Bryant has been hampered by an ankle injury and he's averaging only four points a game.

Shavon Coleman is LSU's leading scorer for the season at 13 points a game, but against SEC teams he's only averaging 7.5 points a game and shooting 32% from the field.

Tip-off tonight is at 7 PM.   You can hear the game on WWL 870am.  The Hornets @ the Celtics will be on 105.3, WWL fm.  Click here for a preview...
