According to an industry publication, restaurants are more likely to be asking employees to stay home if they feel ill and recommending employees wash their hands nearly a dozen times a shift.
"We recommend that each operator should encourage their employees to, number one, be vaccinated against the flu. And they should also recommend that their employees who don't feel well, to stay home," says Erica Papillion, Director of Communications with the Louisiana Restaurant Association.
Some states are reporting reduced supplies and availability of the flu vaccine, which is possibly leading to people taking more actions to try and protect themselves from getting sick this winter.
Papillion says they're recommending the same safe food practices they always do, plus hand sanitizer which is much prevalent at areas restaurants now too, even showing up at the hostess stand.
The Food Service News says some Louisiana restaurants are recommending that employees wash their hands 10-12 times a shift.
