Careless driving in wet weather

Louisiana State Troopers issued an alert to all motorists today to take extra care with their driving, in what appears to be another extended round of rainy weather.

Two fatality accidents in a 24 hour period on the Northshore prompted the caution.  One crash on the I-55 near Ponchatoula took 2 lives, while early this morning one person was killed in an accident on the I-12 in Slidell.

Trooper Nick Manale said they don't appear to be related to any kind of impairment.

''It appears to be just some dangerous driving behavior during inclement weather conditions, when there's water on the roadway we just can't drive like we would on a bright beautiful sunny day,'' said Manale.

Louisiana State Trooper Nick Manale:

Manale said if drivers don't slow down and take extra care, accidents result.

''We're just trying to urge motorists to slow down and take extra precautions and take extra time to get to their destinations.''

Motorists that witness hazardous situations and/or reckless drivers are urged to call *LSP (*577) and report that activity to the Louisiana State Police.
