Oscar nods in Hollywood South

Louisiana's burgeoning film and movie industry had good reason to celebrate today when the Oscar nominations came out in Beverly Hills.
Two movies filmed in Louisiana and in New Orleans, were both nominated for best picture.

At the State Office of Entertainment Industry Development, spokesman Chris Stelly said "Django Unchained'' and Beasts of the Southern Wild, actually picked a number of nominations from the Academy.

''This is a major, major feather in our hat here in Louisiana, because it just shows the level of talent and creativity that exists here, that they can make a good quality picture.''

Listen to Chris Stelly:

Stelly said at a time when many other states are chasing Louisiana's lead in the movie and film making business this can really help the cause.

''It raises the level of quality that we can do here and film makers know without a doubt that they can come here and get the best picture for the amount of money they want to spend in the state,'' said Stelly.

Stelly added you just can't put a price on this kind of publicity and he expects nothing less than another banner year.  The Oscars will be awarded February 24.
