Gasoline deals are gone to start New Year

Motorists looking for those nice low gas prices they found just last month are finding no such deals so far in the New Year.  The statewide average jumped two cents overnight and here in New Orleans prices jumped a nickel just since last week.  Louisiana American Automobile Association spokesman Mike Wright said the culprit is the rising price of crude oil.

''Back on the tenth of December crude oil was selling on the New York Mercantile for about $85 dollars a barrel and yesterday that same barrel closed at $93 dollars,'' Wright said.

As it stands today regular gasoline is going for over $3.19 in New Orleans and statewide it's jumped to $3. 21.  Wright said while the future is uncertain for now he will offer this prediction.

''We are going to be paying slightly less for gasoline in 2013 than we did in 2012.''
