Louisiana Franchise Expo brings more national chains to NOLA

Now that so many chain restaurants have stormed into the New Orleans market, another round of businesses looking to test local waters will be at tonight's Louisiana Franchise Expo.

The expo is for potential business owners to take a look at all the companies from across the country that are looking to expand here. Ted Fireman, the owner of FranNet Louisiana, says there are a lot of opportunities with no restaurants in this round, but there are a slew of other types of businesses looking for a toehold here and "They're in a wide variety of fields, education, technology, damage restoration, health and fitness, business services.

"Total investments, which for each company includes some working capital being at $75,000 and go up.  That's the total investment, so typically an owner would have to invest roughly a third of that and could finance the balance."

Fireman says potential franchisees don't have to have any prior experience.  "What the franchisors really want are people who have general business knowledge and have great people skills and good communication skills, and just a desire to be their own boss."
