Forecasters say a very slow moving system developing in southern Texas is already bring sometimes heavy rain to parts of South Louisiana, and will continue to do so over the next few days. The parishes under the flash flood watch are expected to see 2 to 4 inches of rain through Thursday, with some localized areas getting up to 6 inches.
The watch area is to the west of New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain.
WWL-TV Meteorologist Derek Kevra says the New Orleans Metro area will not likely see potentially heavy rains that other parts of South Louisiana may see.
"The stream of moisture coming our way out of Texas will likely miss the metro area," Kevra says.
However, Kevra says severe weather could be heading to the Southshore and Florida Parishes in a couple of days.
"On Thursday, when a front moves through, that's when we'll see the possibility of thunderstorms and severe weather in the New Orleans area," according to Kevra.
