VIDEO: Cops hunt for suspect in violent robbery

The NOPD is searching for a suspect wanted in connection for a Saturday morning robbery that happened in the 3000 block of Bienville Street.

The crime was captured on surveillance video.  (Scroll down to view the video.)

This week, NOPD detectives issued an arrest warrant for 26-year-old Anthony Fields who is wanted for the violent robbery.

Police say Fields walked into the store shortly after 9:00 A.M. last Saturday morning, immediately approaching the counter and producing a handgun.  The video shows the suspect leaping across the counter and demanding cash from the store’s owner.  When the owner refused, Fields allegedly began to repeatedly pistol whip the owner in the head and was able to make off with $500 in cash.

As a result of being struck multiple times, the victim sustained seven staples to the head, six stitches to an eyebrow and glue to the nose.

According to the NOPD, Fields has been previously arrested for multiple armed robberies with firearms, Flight from an Officer, Criminal Trespassing, Felon with a Firearm, Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number, Simply Robbery, Misrepresentation of Name, Unauthorized Use of a Movable and Simply Burglary.

Anyone with information about this crime or the suspect is asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
