Just as Sandy created a perfect storm of a hurricane and an autumn Nor'Easter, Sandy relief got caught in a perfect storm of politics, says LSU political science professor Wayne Parent.
"The cause of the delay (was) that the more conservative members of the Republican party are just really mad that they can't cut domestic spending and their argument was that there were too many other things packed into the bill," said Parent.

Parent said that could come back to haunt some members when the 2014 mid-term elections gear up, pointing to what New York Republican Peter King said: "You don't get many votes up in the northeast where the hurricane hit but you get a lot of money up here, and we're going cut off your money, you know?"
Parent says Gulf Coast residents should be thankful this political scenario wasn't present in 2005.
