There's family friendly fun at the Audubon Zoo today. Brenda Walkenhorst, director of education and volunteers at Audubon Zoo says folks need to meet at 10:30 at the central stage for their Zoo Year's Eve celebration. "There they'll be able to pick up noise makers and hats. And we're going to have live entertainment from 10:30a.m. until 12:30p.m. At 12:00 p.m., instead of a.m., we'll have a countdown and a toast of soft drinks."
There will be performances by the Ruppel Academy Dance and Flag Team, the Remedy Band and the Fat City Drum Corps, which will assist revelers with the countdown. Other activities include juggler, clown and magician performances and a jump rope exhibition. Walkenhorst says it's the perfect place for parents to wear kids out, so they'll be free to enjoy New Year's Eve festivites tonight.
The Zoo Year's Eve party is included in regular admission, which is $16 for adults, $11 for children (2-12), and $13 for seniors (65 and older). Audubon Nature Institute members are admitted free of charge. Guests can bring outside food and beverage.

If you want to party like it's 1945, check out the shindig at the World War II Museum. There are two nostalgic New Years Eve options this year: One with a jazz club atmosphere and the Victory Belles entertaining. Another featuring dancing to the Victory Big Band.
Many large hotels in the city invite revelers to parties tonight with horns, hats and the champagne flowing, as do most of the area's top nightclubs and bars. The casinos in Kenner, Harvey and downtown all have festivities planned.
