The final weekend of 2012 looks like it'll be another economic boon for New Orleans.

Hotels are filling up fast.

"There are still rooms available," says Mark Romig, President and CEO of the New Orleans Tourism Marketing Corporation. "But hotels are creeping up in occupancy."

"We've got a healthy occupancy going into the weekend...around 80 percent or so. And, we expect that to increase as we get closer to New Year's Eve," says Romig.

A lot of those rooms will soon be grabbed by Sugar Bowl fans who'll help contribute to the city's coffers.

"We're expecting a really nice group of fans to come in from the University of Louisville, as well as the University of Florida."

And, once again, New Orleans expects to welcome folks from around the world to ring in 2013 along the Mississippi River.

"Historically, this weekend has been anywhere between 100 and 150 million dollars of economic impact," says Romig.

"That's a lot of activity for our small businesses, our restaurants, our hotels, our attractions," he says. "And, as you think through those numbers, all of it supports about 75,000 people who work within the hospitality industry."

"That's payroll. That's money for those families to use for their own needs, and it's just a great economic generator for our community."

"New Orleans is now listed by 'Travel & Leisure' magazine as the top New Year's Eve destination in the country," says Romig. "So we expect a lot of people to come in and enjoy the sights and sounds of New Orleans as we ring in 2013."

"It really is a great way to wrap up the year and to get started on a new year that will see the granddaddy of all events occurring in New Orleans...the NFL Super Bowl."

"We'll host the Super Bowl for the tenth time in early February, and we expect that impact for the city, the region and the state to be well over 430 million dollars."
