'Miracle on Fulton Street' brings Santa, reindeer and snow to the CBD

Santa is spending the final weekend before Christmas here in the south.

The jolly fat man and his reindeer are hanging out on Fulton Street in New Orleans before they start their annual trek around the world.

"Santa will be at 'Miracle on Fulton Street' on both Friday and Saturday nights for pictures with the family. And, then, he'll be heading back up north after Saturday," says Roger Adamson, Vice-President of Marketing for Harrah's New Orleans.

And, Santa's not alone. He's brought a couple of his reindeer, Comet and Cupid, with him.

"They're actual live reindeer, imported from the North Pole," says Adamson. "And the kids just love seeing them."

Both Santa and his livestock seem to feel right at home here. That's largely because periodic snowfalls, which are rare in New Orleans, are forecast for Fulton Street both Friday and Saturday nights.

"Every hour, on the hour, beginning at 5 p.m., a snowstorm hits Fulton Street under the canopy."

"Typically, it's about a ten-minute blizzard," Adamson says. "And then the blizzard breaks up and, about an hour later, another blizzard just happens to blow over Fulton Street."

A roaming caroler chorus will greet and entertain guests at each of the restaurant venues lining Fulton Street, singing holiday favorites. Hot chocolate and roasted chestnuts will be available.

A centerpiece of Fulton Street Square is the 40-foot Tremendous Tree, one of the largest Christmas trees in the city.

Santa and his reindeer will pose for pictures with the kids Friday and Saturday nights from 7 to 9 p.m.
All the decorations, including dancing lights on the French Quarter facade balconies and the Tremendous Tree, will remain through January 2nd.
