Tulane expert: World not ending

Tomorrow is the final day of the Mayan calendar, a day long purported to also mean the end of the world.  A Tulane expert on the Mayan culture says there is significance to the date, but it is not the end of the world.

Marcello Canuto, Director of the Middle American Research Institute at Tulane University, says 12/21/12 marks the end of an era in their culture, but also the beginning of another one.

He has studied Mayan culture for over 25 years and says the Mayans seemed to expect changes on this date, but not the end of the world.

"It would not have been... any kind of fireballs or destruction of the earth," he explained.  "Nothing apocalyptic."
