LSU hoops picks up first road win of the season

How It Happened: The LSU Tigers led for much of the game, but had to hold on in the final minute to beat UC Irvine 66-60. Junior guard Andre Stringer led the way with 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting. Shavon Coleman had a double-double with 13 points and eleven rebounds. The Tigers hit 8 3-pointers on the night.

Most Valuable Tiger: Andre Stringer (above) was the difference. He had 19 points and hit 3, three-pointers. Stringer was left open several times, as the Anteaters were more concerned about Johnny O' Bryant, who finished with nine points and 13 rebounds.

What It Means: It would have been discouraging for this young Tiger basketball team not to win a game on this trip out west. LSU lost by 19 points to Boise State on Friday night, but came back to get a nice victory against UC Irvine, who had a losing record going into the contest. LSU is now 7-and-1 on the season

Stat of the Night: After 20 turnovers in the Boise State loss, LSU had eleven turnovers against UC Irvine. The Tigers forced 17 turnovers, resulting in 21 points.

What's next: LSU will barely have time to unpack its suitcases. They leave Friday for Milwaukee, where they'll face the Marquette Golden Eagles on Saturday afternoon. Marquette is 7-and-2, but lost by 33 points to Florida last month. LSU beat the Golden Eagles 67-59 last season. Tip-off on Saturday is at 1 PM.
