Belle Chasse student arrested for threatening to "shoot up" school

A Belle Chasse High School senior is under arrest after cops say he made threats to shoot up the Belle Chasse High School and harm a teacher.

"The threats were made on Monday, December 17, 2012, during school hours and the student was arrested later that same night," Commander Eric Becnel said in a news release.  "During the initial investigation, it was learned that an 18 year old student, identified as Leonard F. Jourdan, III (above) of Belle Chasse, made threats of shooting up the school and killing a teacher. Because school was dismissed for the day and Jourdan was not on school grounds, the PPSO determined there was no immediate threat."

Sheriff Lonnie Greco says, "The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office takes all threats seriously, especially those involving the threats towards the students and teachers at our schools. I would like to stress the importance of immediately reporting tips and this type of information to my Office. We will thoroughly investigate all complaints and, if there is probable cause, we will arrest those responsible. Public safety is a priority. The public should rest assured that we will do everything in our power to make certain that those attending and working at our schools remain safe."
A student in West Monroe, Louisiana was also arrested in a seperate, but similar case.
