Record crowd expected for New Orleans Bowl

Another big game comes to the Superdome this Saturday. And, it looks like the New Orleans Bowl will draw record crowds.

U-L Lafayette plays East Carolina this Saturday, December 22nd.

The Ragin Cajuns athletic ticket office has sold over 20-thousand tickets for the R-and-L Carriers New Orleans Bowl. U-L Lafayette sold nearly 19-thousand tickets for last year's New Orleans Bowl appearance and the school's ticket manager, Matt Cason, says more fans want to be in that number this year.

"I'm not sure where the number's going to stop, but it's going to be something special," says Cason. "I think more people want to be part of that experience. They want to go down to New Orleans, have a good time in the city and support the Ragin Cajuns."

A record 42-thousand fans were in attendance for last year's New Orleans Bowl, which saw U-L-L beat San Diego State with a last second field goal.

Cason says the response by Cajun fans this year has led to the New Orleans Bowl opening up the Terrace Level in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

"Last year we sold 18,000 tickets. That was just the Plaza and Loge. This year, with the amount of ticket sales we've had, they had to open up those 500 and 600 sections for the New Orleans Bowl."

The Beach Boys and Bad Company will perform in a Friday concert at 5:30 in Champion's Square.
Cajun fans have until Monday night to purchase tickets through the ticket office at the Cajundome Box Office.
