Bobby Hebert: A 'great victory' for the players

After former NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue vacated the suspensions of current and former Saints players in the “bounty” investigation, WWL’s “Cajun Cannon” Bobby Hebert says it’s a big win for members of the Black and Gold.

“I think it’s a great victory for the players,” Bobby says.  “People thought Jon Vilma was crazy, and that he would never beat the NFL, but he knew what was right…Very similar to what I faced, going back to 1990, fighting for free agency.  That’s why you have a player’s union.

Bobby, Drew Brees and other current and former members of the NFL have been critical of NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s heavy-handed approach to dealing with many league issues.  Hebert says Tagliabue got it right in parceling more of the blame for the pay-for-performance program on the coaches and front office.

“The bottom line, is, it’s almost military, the chain of command.  You’re going to do what your boss tells you.  If you want to last and play in the NFL, if your coach tells you to run through that wall, you try to run through that wall, or they’ll try to get someone else.  I think the players are just taking orders. “
