Report on century-old Americans
The Census Bureau released its report on the number of people in the U.S. who are 100 year old or older. A lot of them live in the south.
More people are living to the triple-digit years, and thee Census finds that they are overwhelmingly female: for every hundred woman over the age of 100, there are fewer than 21 men.
The south as a region had the most overall -- more than 17,000, with Florida, long known as a destination for retirees, having the most centenarians in the South -- 4,090. The Census reports nearly 594 centenarians in Louisiana.
