Orleans sheriff's deputy captures suspect moments after rush-hour shooting

New Orleans Police today say an Orleans Parish Deputy Sheriff witnessed a fight between two men escalate into a shooting this morning, near the intersection of North Claiborne and Esplanade avenues.

It happened in the middle of rush-hour traffic at the crowded intersection.  According to police, the deputy saw the fight, heard a gunshot, then saw one of the men with a gun.  Police say the deputy exited his vehicle and ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, but the man tried to run.  Cops say the deputy subdued him and recovered the weapon.

Police think robbery may have been the motive for the shooting.
