Young is upbeat on Jefferson Parish

An optimistic and promising State of the Parish address today from Jefferson President John Young.  Young foresees even better days ahead but warns that the fiscal cliff crisis in Washington better get straightened out and soon.  In an interview today with WWL-TV, Young predicted the economy is about to really take off, which could help with one of the biggest problems facing his parish.

''Our sales taxes are flat, we're budgeting for zero sales tax growth, we're very dependent on sales tax,'' said Young.

Young is hopes the redevelopment of Fat City will  become a major economic boost for the area.

''It's in the middle of Metairie, the epicenter of retail commerce, it could be good with restaurants and retail and art galleries.''

Young said Fat City could turn out for Jefferson Parish, what the Warehouse District is for New Orleans, attracting a younger and more affluent crowd.
If the U.S. Government can avert the fiscal cliff, Young think's the local and national economy are really going to take off.
