Survey: Smartphone shoppers will spend a lot more this Christmas

Have a smartphone?  According to Deloitte's annual holiday survey of consumer spending intentions you'll spend 72% more over the holiday season.

"The applications just make it so easy to find good deals," says mobile commerce expert Jim Bricker.  He says all those deals are just too enticing to turn down as people try to find the perfect gift.

Half of those surveyed now have a smartphone.

It's been a strong start to the holiday shopping season, but this year is like no other when it comes to just how we're shopping.

We're using the web and smartphones to do a lot of research before we buy this survey shows, not just comparing prices but also reading reviews, and hunting for free shipping and free returns.

Consumers are expected to rely on a blend of traditional and digital information sources as they track down information about the holidays this year, and according to Deloitte's survey, "More than two-thirds of consumers surveyed expect to find out about the products they purchase this holiday season through combined on-line, social media and mobile formats, compared to 60 percent who will rely on traditional media such as radio, television and newspapers. Nearly the same amount expects to learn about products this holiday season through friends and family."

Shoppers number one use for smartphones is finding the lowest price.
